How much does it cost to make a will?

The costs for drafting a Will depends on a variety of factors to include ascertaining the beneficiaries, stock taking of assets, liaising with the testator etc. In straightforward cases, the fees would be in the range of £750-£1,000 plus VAT. Otherwise, the matter will be billed on an hourly basis.

How much does it cost to register an enduring power of attorney?

The fees for registering an Enduring Power of Attorney, following loss of capacity is £1,000 plus VAT, (which includes a £600 solicitor’s fee and £82 Court fees).

Probate: grant only service

Our Grant only service can be a cost effective way to obtain a Grant of Probate for a simple estate. KMT will assist in obtaining a Grant of Probate (or Grant of Letters of Administration) using information provided by the family or beneficiaries.

Our estimates for:

• A simplified estate form (IHT205) - £2,500 plus VAT

• A full estate form (IHT400) - £3,500 plus VAT

Depending on the complexity of the case, clients will be advised of the costs incurred on an hourly basis.

Full estate administration service

As a guide, the fees for full estate administration will typically start from £3,000 - £5,000 plus VAT for a very straightforward estate whilst fees for complex estates can exceed £25,000 plus VAT.


Disbursements for Full Estate Administration:

Probate Application Fee: £273 (Additional copies available at £1.50 each)

Bankruptcy Searches: Land Charges Department searches at £2 per beneficiary

Statutory Notices:

£88 plus VAT for posting in The London Gazette (Protection against unexpected claims from unknown creditors)

£220 plus VAT for posting in a Local Newspaper (Additional protection against unexpected claims)

 Disbursements refer to costs associated with your case, such as court fees, payable to external parties. We handle these payments on your behalf to streamline the process.

Potential Additional Costs:

If the estate includes share holdings (stocks and bonds), there might be additional costs. The exact amount varies based on the estate's complexity, and we can provide a precise quote with more information.

Additional copies of the grant requested after its issue will incur an extra charge from the Probate Registry.

Please note that expenses related to the sale or transfer of any property in the estate are not covered in this fee.

Duration:

Typically, estates falling within this category are resolved within 8-12 months. The process usually unfolds as follows:

Obtaining the grant of probate: 8-10 weeks

Collecting assets: 8-12 weeks

Statutory notice period: 2 months and one day

Distribution of assets after asset collection and expiration of the statutory notice period: 3-4 weeks

What are the fees for setting up a trust?

A lifetime discretionary trust or life interest trust designed to hold cash or investments will cost around £2,000 plus VAT to set up.

How much does it cost to register a lasting power of attorney?

 A single and Property and Affairs Lasting Power of Attorney document - £1,000 plus disbursement fee of £82.
